DTC 032

DTC 032

Diagnostic Instructions

* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
* Review Strategy Based Diagnosis (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
* Diagnostic Procedure Instructions (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) provide an overview of each diagnostic category.

DTC Descriptor
DTC 032
- Rezeroing Error Fault

Circuit/System Description

The inflatable restraint passenger presence system (PPS) is a calibrated unit. Anytime the passenger seat bottom cushion or trim attachments have been removed/serviced or the PPS has been replaced, the PPS system must learn the empty seat value by rezeroing. If there is an error during the rezeroing process, the PPS will set DTC 032. DTC 056 will also set indicating a system fault until a successful rezero has been completed. When the PPS detects this DTC within the PPS it will notify the customer of the enable/disable status by turning on the OFF indicator on the PASSENGER AIR BAG ON/OFF indicators, then the PPS will communicate to the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) through a dedicated serial data circuit that a PPS fault is present. The SDM will then turn the AIR BAG indicator ON, and set DTC B0081 indicating a problem within the PPS and will disable the deployment of the instrument panel (I/P) module.

Conditions for Running the DTC

Ignition voltage is between 9-16 volts.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

* An error occurs after a rezero command was given.
* Sensor data is out of range during rezero.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

* The PPS will set a DTC 032, and then communicate with the SDM via dedicated serial data circuit.
* The PPS will also set DTC 056 indicating a PPS internal system fault has occurred until the re-zeroing procedure was performed.
* The SDM will set DTC B0081.
* The SDM disables the I/P module deployment loop.
* The PPS will illuminate the passenger air bag status OFF indicator.
* The SDM commands the AIR BAG indicator ON via serial data.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

* The condition for setting the DTC no longer exists.
* A history DTC will clear once 255 malfunction-free ignition cycles have occurred.

Diagnostic Aids

This fault indicates that the system did not correctly rezero. You may have to perform the rezero process several times until an acceptable rezero is achieved. When the PPS has been properly rezeroed, using a scan tool a clear DTCs command must be given to clear DTC 032 and DTC 056 from history.

Circuit/System Verification

Important: If DTC resets after rezeroing, it may be necessary to perform this rezeroing procedure several times.

1. Ignition ON, clear all SIR and PPS DTCs. Rezero the PPS, refer to Passenger Presence System Rezeroing (Programming and Relearning).
2. Verify DTC 032 is not set as current, refer to Passenger Presence System Flash Code Procedures (Passenger Presence System Flash Code Procedures)

If DTC 032 is set as current, replace the PPS.
