Muffler: Service and Repair



Muffler Replacement (LAT, LZ4 - Gas, 6 Cyl, 3.5L, SFI, V6, Offset Bore and 4 Cyl, 2.4L, MFI, Alum, DOHC, BAS [Hybrid])

Removal Procedure





1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service Intervals).
2. If equipped with a 2.4L engine, remove the intermediate pipe to muffler nuts.




3. If equipped with a 3.5L engine, remove the rear catalytic converter to muffler nuts.




4. With the aid of an assistant, remove the muffler insulators from the hangers.
5. Remove the muffler assembly.



Installation Procedure






Important: Replace the muffler hangers any time the exhaust system is removed from the vehicle. Do not use any mineral oil based lubricants or sharp tools when installing new exhaust system hangers.


1. With the aid of an assistant, position the muffler assembly.
2. Install the muffler insulators to the hangers.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice).

3. If equipped with a 3.5L engine, install the exhaust pipe to muffler nuts.

Tighten the nuts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).





4. If equipped with a 2.4L engine, install the exhaust manifold pipe to muffler nuts.

Tighten the nuts to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).
