The purpose of this bulletin is to alert dealership personnel of two possible Air Conditioning (A/C) system refrigerant leak locations that have been found on customers vehicles. Technicians should perform the normal HVAC system diagnostics in SI to diagnose the customer concern. If diagnostics instruct you to begin looking for refrigerant leaks, the entire A/C system should be checked, but two areas of the A/C system should be inspected very carefully. Small refrigerant leaks have been found at two locations.

The first is the joint between the evaporator core inlet and outlet pipes and the Thermal Expansion Valve (TXV).

The second is at the joint between the A/C compressor and the compressor and condenser hose assembly.

The fasteners at these two locations may not have been torqued properly, which may have allowed small refrigerant leaks to develop. Technicians should use the J 39400 - Halogen Leak Detector to inspect for leaks at these locations. The refrigerant leaks are so small that the dye in the A/C system may not show evidence of the leak at the time of testing. If leaks are found at these locations, repair the leaks as necessary and be sure to install the fasteners using the proper torque specifications found in SI.
