Instrument Panel Trim Panel Replacement

Removal Procedure

Warning: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning (Service Precautions).





1. Disconnect the battery.
2. Remove the complete sill trim panel right and left.

1. Loosen the 5 clips.
2. Remove the sill panel upwards.

3. Remove the front floor console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement (Service and Repair).





Note: Ensure that the retaining wire is not bent.

4. Remove the airbag.

1. Turn the steering wheel 90 degrees (I).
2. Push the retaining wire in direction of steering column using small screwdriver in service opening (II) and remove airbag module.
3. Release and disconnect the wiring harness plug.

Note: Position the steering wheel straight.

5. Remove the steering wheel.

1. Remove the bolt.
2. Disconnect the wiring harness plug.
3. Remove the steering wheel.




6. Remove the steering column panel.

1. Remove the 2 panels.
2. Remove the 2 bolts.
3. Tilt the upper steering column panel upwards.
4. Remove the ignition lock panel (1).
5. Remove the 3 bolts.
6. Remove the lower panel.




7. Remove the steering column electronics module (CIM module).

1. Remove the 3 bolts (1).
2. Release and disconnect the wiring harness plug.
3. Remove the cable harness clamp.





Note: The rotary light switch center can be pressed inwards and is unlocked.

8. Remove the light switch center.

1. Press the rotary switch (1) in position "0", move pressed rotary switch to the middle position (3) and remove the light switch center (2).
2. Release and disconnect the wiring harness plug.




9. Remove the radio.

1. Disconnect with dismantling strap (arrow).
2. Disconnect the wiring harness plug (2).
3. Disconnect the antenna (1).




10. Remove the heating/air conditioning control module.

1. Loosen the 2 top clips (1).
2. Loosen the 2 bottom clips.
3. Release the 2 wiring harness plugs and disconnect (2).




11. Remove the accessory switch panel.

1. Remove the 2 bolts (2).
2. Release and disconnect the wiring harness plug (1).
3. Remove the panel.




12. Remove the right instrument trim panel.

1. Release with the plastic wedge.
2. Disconnect the 4 clips.

13. Remove the information display.

1. Remove the 2 bolts.
2. Release and disconnect the wiring harness plug.




14. Remove the instrument panel knee bolster, drivers side.

1. Remove the 4 bolts.
2. Disconnect and remove the cowling from bracket.




15. Remove the instrument cluster.

1. Remove the 2 bolts (1).
2. Lift the upper steering column paneling (2) upwards and remove instrument cluster (3).
3. Release and disconnect the wiring harness plug.




16. Remove the I/P compartment.

1. Open the I/P compartment cover.
2. Remove the 4 bolts (1).
3. Disconnect the wiring harness plug.
4. Remove the I/P compartment.




17. Remove the air duct for the front driver side footwell.
Loosen the clip (1) and remove the air duct.
18. Remove the air duct for the front passenger side footwell.
Loosen the clips (2) and remove the air duct.




19. Remove the inner paneling for the left windshield garnish molding.

1. Remove the access panel (1).
2. Disconnect the clip.
3. Remove the windshield garnish molding.

20. Remove the inner paneling for the right windshield garnish molding.

1. Remove the access panel (1).
2. Disconnect the clip.
3. Remove the windshield garnish molding.




21. Remove the central speaker I/P padding panel.

1. Remove the central speaker panel (1).
2. Disconnect the wiring harness plug (3) from the sun sensor (2).




22. Remove the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement (Steering Column Replacement).
23. Loosen the I/P padding.

1. Remove the top bolt (1).
2. Remove the 4 bolts at the bottom (2, 3).




24. Loosen the instrument trim panel.

1. Unclip both the I/P padding covers, side.
2. Remove the 2 bolts (1).
3. Remove the 2 footwell bolts (2, 3).

25. Remove the instrument trim panel.
Remove the 2 wiring harness clamps and remove the I/P padding.

Installation Procedure

1. Insert the instrument trim panel.

1. Install the 2 wiring harness clamps.
2. Insert the instrument trim panel.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

2. Fasten the instrument trim panel.

* Tighten the top 4 bolts to 13 Nm(113 lb in).
* Tighten the lower 5 bolts to 6 Nm (53 lb in).

3. Clip in the both instrument trim panel covers, side.
4. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement (Steering Column Replacement).
5. Install the central speaker I/P padding panel.

1. Connect the sun sensor wiring harness.
2. Install the central speaker panel.

6. Install the air duct for front passenger side footwell.

1. Insert the air duct.
2. Install the clip.

7. Install the inner paneling for the upper left windshield garnish molding.

1. Insert the windshield garnish molding inner paneling.
2. Install the panel.
3. Install the clip.

8. Install the upper right windshield garnish molding inner paneling.

1. Insert the windshield garnish molding inner paneling.
2. Install the panel.
3. Install the clip.

9. Install the air duct for the front passenger side footwell.
10. Insert the air duct.
11. Install the I/P compartment.

1. Connect the wiring harness plug.
2. Insert the I/P compartment and tighten the 4 bolts to 4 Nm (35 lb in).
3. Close the I/P compartment cover.

12. Install the instrument cluster.

1. Connect and latch the wiring harness plug.
2. Insert the instrument cluster and tighten the 2 bolts to 3 Nm (26 lb in).

13. Install the inner paneling for the knee bolster, driver side.
Install the drivers side knee bolster and tighten the 4 bolts to 3 Nm (26 lb in).
14. Install the information display.
15. Connect and latch the wiring harness plug and tighten the 2 bolts to 3 Nm (26 lb in).
16. Install the right instrument trim panel.
Install the 4 clips.
17. Install the accessory strip panel.
Connect and latch the wiring harness plug and tighten the 2 bolts to 3 Nm (26 lb in).
18. Install the heating/air conditioning control module.

1. Connect and lock the 2 wiring harness plugs.
2. Install the 4 clips.

19. Install the radio.

1. Install the antenna.
2. Connect the wiring harness plug.
3. Slide the radio in until it clicks in.

20. Install the light switch center.

1. Connect and latch the wiring harness plug.
2. Install the light switch center.

21. Install the steering column electronics module (CIM module).

1. Connect the wiring harness plug.
2. Install the clamp and tighten the 3 bolts to 3.8 Nm (34 lb in).

22. Install the bottom steering column paneling and tighten the 3 bolts to 1 Nm (9 lb in).
23. Install the top steering column paneling.
Tilt the upper steering column paneling downwards and tighten the 2 bolts to 2.5 Nm (22 lb in).
24. Install the 2 panels.
25. Install the steering wheel and tighten the bolt to 30 Nm (22 lb ft).

* Use the screw locking compound.
* Connect the wiring harness plug.

26. Install the airbag.

1. Connect and latch the wiring harness plug.
2. Install the 2 clips.

27. Install the center front floor console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement (Service and Repair).
28. Install the sill strip completely, both sides.
Install the 5 clips.
29. Connect the battery.
30. For programming procedures, refer to Control Module References (Programming and Relearning).
