20. Camshaft Removal




Camshaft Removal





Important: Note the removal sequence 1-4.


1. Remove the 4 camshaft bearing support bolts.
2. Release the bearing support by striking it gently with a plastic hammer.
3. Remove the 1st camshaft bearing support.





Important: Mark the exhaust camshaft bearing caps before removal.


4. Remove the camshaft bearing caps 2-5, working from outside to inside in a spiral, in steps of 1/2 up to 1 turn.
5. Remove the camshaft bearing cover from the cylinder head.
6. Remove the exhaust camshaft.

Important: Mark the intake camshaft bearing caps before removal.


7. Remove the camshaft bearing caps 2-5, working from outside to inside in a spiral, in steps of 1/2 up to 1 turn.
8. Remove the camshaft bearing cover from the cylinder head.
9. Remove the intake camshaft.
10. Remove the seal rings from the camshafts.




11. Unscrew the closure bolt (2) of the intake camshaft adjuster (1) or the closure bolt (4) of the exhaust camshaft adjuster (3).




12. Detach the intake camshaft adjuster (1) or exhaust camshaft adjuster (3).

Important: A second person is required.


* Counterhold against hexagon of corresponding camshaft with an open-ended wrench.
* Unscrew the bolt (2) or (4).
