Front Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement

Special Tools

J 28733-B /KM-6610 and KM-956-1 Front/Rear Spindle Remover

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the front wheel.
2. Remove the brake rotor. Refer to Front Brake Rotor Replacement (Service and Repair).




3. Remove the nut from the axle shaft.
Counter-hold against the wheel hub with holding wrench J 28733-B /KM-6610 and KM-956-1.
4. Disconnect the wiring harness plug (1) for wheel sensor.

Note: Pay attention to installation position of wheel bearing unit and cover plate.

5. Remove the wheel bearing unit.

* Detach the 3 bolts (2).
* Pull the wheel bearing unit (4) with the cover plate (3) from the steering knuckle and axle shaft.




6. Remove the cover plate from wheel bearing unit.

Installation Procedure

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

Note:
* Note installation position.
* Clean thread and insert bolts with locking compound.

1. Install the wheel bearing unit.

* Place the cover plate on the wheel bearing unit.
* Slide the wheel bearing unit with the cover plate onto the axle shaft and place onto steering knuckle.
* Install the 3 new bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 90 Nm (67 lb ft) plus 30 degrees plus 15 degrees.





Note: Ensure that wiring harness is correctly attached in all brackets and clips in order to prevent damage to wiring harness.

2. Route the wiring harness.

* Clip the wheel sensor wiring harness in the retaining clip (1).
* Connect the wheel sensor wiring harness.

3. Install the axle shaft with the new nut.

Tighten the axle shaft nut to 150 Nm (111 lb ft), undo 45 degrees, then tighten to 250 Nm (185 lb ft)
Counter-hold against wheel hub with J 28733-B /KM-6610 and KM-956-1.
4. Install the brake rotor. Refer to Front Brake Rotor Replacement (Service and Repair).
5. Install the front wheel.

Tighten the front wheel bolts to 110 Nm (81 lb ft).
