Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement

Removal Procedure




1. Remove the corresponding tie rod end from the tie rod. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement (Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement).

Note: To remove and refit the right-hand tie rod the left-hand boot must also be detached from the steering gear. A flat surface is to be found on the steering shaft side to hold against the steering rack (arrows).

2. Remove the corresponding boot. Refer to Rack and Pinion Boot Replacement (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the tie rod with KM-6004-2 (1) from the steering rack.
Counterhold with an open-ended wrench (2) on the toothed rack flat.

Installation Procedure





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

1. Install the tie rod outer linkage to the steering gear.

Tighten to 90 Nm (67 lb ft).

* Clean the rack thread and coat with locking compound.
* Install the tie rod to the rack with KM-6004-2 (1).
Counterhold with an open-ended wrench (2) on the toothed rack flat (arrow).

2. Install the boot or boots. Refer to Rack and Pinion Boot Replacement (Service and Repair).
3. Install the corresponding tie rod end. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement (Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement).
4. Inspect the straight-ahead position, adjust if necessary. Refer to Straight Ahead Inspection (Removal and Replacement).
5. Inspect the toe-in, adjust if necessary. Refer to Wheel Alignment - Steering Wheel Angle and/or Front Toe Adjustment (Service and Repair).
