Subject: Information on Door Ajar Lamp Illuminated and Proper Liftgate Latch Operation

The following information should be provided to customers regarding issues in which the door ajar lamp is illuminated on the instrument panel after closing the liftgate and checking that it is latched or when, after closing the liftgate, when they check to verify the latch is engaged they are able to open the liftgate.
Liftgate Latch Design
The liftgate incorporates a pressure sensitive, latch release touchpad, located on the bottom edge of the chrome liftgate trim panel. Pressing the touchpad releases the liftgate latch.
Instructions for Proper Liftgate Operation
Advise the customer on the proper opening and closing procedures for the liftgate.
- To open the liftgate, press the touchpad located in the chrome handle on the liftgate and lift up to open.
- To close the liftgate, use the inside pull handle to lower and close the gate.
- Do not press the touchpad while closing the liftgate, this will cause the liftgate to unlatch.
- If the customer wants to verify the liftgate is latched, instruct them to lift on the chrome handle on either side of the center area.
- Advise the customer, DO NOT lift in the center of the chrome handle. The latch release may be activated unintentionally.
