DTC Descriptor
DTC 032
- Rezeroing Error Fault
Circuit/System Description
The inflatable restraint passenger presence system (PPS) is a calibrated unit. Anytime the passenger seat bottom cushion or trim attachments have been removed/serviced or the PPS has been replaced, the PPS system must learn the empty seat value by rezeroing. If there is an error during the rezeroing process, the PPS module will set DTC 032. DTC 056 will also set and remain current until a successful rezero has been completed. The PPS module illuminates the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF indicator and notifies the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) that a fault is present when the DTC sets. The SDM will set DTC B0081 indicating a PPS fault and request the instrument panel cluster (IPC) to illuminate the AIR BAG indicator. The SDM will also disable the deployment of the I/P inflator module.
Conditions for Running the DTC
Ignition voltage is between 9-16 volts.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
* An error occurs after a rezero command was given.
* Sensor data is out of range during rezero.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
* The PPS will set a DTC 032 and communicate to the SDM that a PPS DTC has set.
* The PPS will also set DTC 056 indicating that a PPS internal system fault has occurred. DTC 052 will remain current until the rezeroing procedure has been successfully performed.
* The SDM will set DTC B0081.
* The SDM disables the I/P inflator module deployment loop.
* The PPS will illuminate the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF indicator.
* The SDM requests the IPC to illuminate the AIR BAG indicator and display the message "Service Air Bag."
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* The condition for setting the DTC no longer exists.
* A history DTC will clear once 100 malfunction-free ignition cycles have occurred.
Diagnostic Aids
This fault indicates that the system did not correctly rezero. You may have to perform the rezero process several times until an acceptable rezero is achieved. When the PPS has been properly rezeroed, use the scan tool to clear DTC 032 and DTC 056 from history.

Circuit/System Verification
Important: If the DTC resets after rezeroing, it may be necessary to perform this rezeroing procedure several times.
1. Ignition ON, perform the PPS Rezeroing procedure. Refer to Passenger Presence System Rezeroing (Programming and Relearning).
2. Ignition ON, verify DTC 032 is not set as current. Refer to Passenger Presence System Flash Code Procedures (Passenger Presence System Flash Code Procedures).
• If DTC 032 is set as current, replace the PPS.
Repair Instructions
