Transmission Replacement (Without ZOK)
Transmission Replacement (Without ZOK)
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the control lever knob and boot assembly. Refer to Control Lever and/or Boot Replacement (SKY) (Service and Repair)Control Lever and/or Boot Replacement (Solstice) (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (LNF) (Service and Repair)Catalytic Converter Replacement (LE5) (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the clutch hose/pipe assembly retainer clip (1) from the clutch master cylinder.
4. Disconnect the clutch hose/pipe assembly (2) from the clutch master cylinder.
5. Cap the clutch hose/pipe assembly (2) in order to prevent fluid loss and contamination.
It is not necessary to plug the lower hose end or slave cylinder fitting as they are equipped with check valves, only minimal fluid loss may be experienced.
6. Remove the starter. Refer to Starter Replacement (Service and Repair).
7. Remove the transmission support. Refer to Transmission Support Replacement (Automatic Transmission) (Transmission Support Replacement (Automatic Transmission))Transmission Support Replacement (Manual Transmission) (Transmission Support Replacement (Manual Transmission))Transmission Support Replacement (Manual Transmission W/ZOK) (Service and Repair).
8. Drain the transmission fluid if necessary. Refer to Transmission Fluid Replacement (Transmission Fluid Replacement).
9. Disconnect the electrical connector (2) from the backup lamp switch (5).
10. Disconnect the electrical connector (3) from the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) (4).
11. Disconnect the wiring harness (1) from the clip bracket.
12. Disconnect the wiring harness clips (6) from the clip brackets, and position the harness aside.
13. Support the transmission using a transmission jack.
14. Remove the propeller shaft and driveline support. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement (Automatic) (Propeller Shaft Replacement (Automatic))Propeller Shaft Replacement (RPO ZOK) (Propeller Shaft Replacement (RPO ZOK))Propeller Shaft Replacement (w/o RPO ZOK) (Propeller Shaft Replacement (w/o RPO ZOK)).
15. Remove the driveline support. Refer to Driveline Support Replacement (Service and Repair).
16. Remove the 5 transmission to engine mounting bolts (1).
17. Remove the 2 engine to transmission mounting bolts (2).
18. Remove the 2 remaining transmission mounting bolts (2).
Note: Do not allow the transmission to hang from the clutch assembly.
19. Pull the transmission straight back off the clutch hub splines.
Note: Ensure clearance is maintained between the transmission and the following:
* The catalytic converter
* The clutch assembly
* The engine wiring harness
* The clutch actuator pipe and hose
20. Using the transmission jack, carefully lower the transmission from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
Note: Ensure clearance is maintained between the transmission and the following:
* The catalytic converter
* The clutch assembly
* The engine wiring harness
1. Using the transmission jack, carefully raise the transmission to the engine.
Note: Do not allow the transmission to hang from the clutch assembly.
2. Align the transmission with the engine dowels (1).
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
3. Install the 2 transmission mounting bolts (2) and tighten to 50 Nm (37 lb ft).
4. Install the 2 engine to transmission mounting bolts (2) and tighten to 50 Nm (37 lb ft).
5. Install the 5 transmission to engine mounting bolts (1) and tighten to 50 Nm (37 lb ft).
6. Install the propeller shaft and driveline support. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement (Automatic) (Propeller Shaft Replacement (Automatic))Propeller Shaft Replacement (RPO ZOK) (Propeller Shaft Replacement (RPO ZOK))Propeller Shaft Replacement (w/o RPO ZOK) (Propeller Shaft Replacement (w/o RPO ZOK)).
7. Install the driveline support. Refer to Driveline Support Replacement (Service and Repair).
8. Remove the transmission jack.
9. Lay the engine wiring harness over the transmission.
10. Connect the wiring harness clips (6) to the clip brackets.
11. Connect the wiring harness (1) to the clip bracket.
12. Connect the electrical connector (3) to the VSS (4).
13. Connect the electrical connector (2) to the backup lamp switch (5).
14. Fill the transmission fluid if removed. Refer to Transmission Fluid Replacement (Transmission Fluid Replacement).
15. Install the transmission support and closeout panels. Refer to Transmission Support Replacement (Automatic Transmission) (Transmission Support Replacement (Automatic Transmission))Transmission Support Replacement (Manual Transmission) (Transmission Support Replacement (Manual Transmission))Transmission Support Replacement (Manual Transmission W/ZOK) (Service and Repair).
16. Install the starter. Refer to Starter Replacement (Service and Repair).
Note: Ensure the clutch hydraulic hose does not come in contact with any sharp or potentially hot surfaces.
17. Install the clutch hose/pipe assembly retainer clip (2) to the clutch master cylinder.
18. Connect the clutch hose/pipe assembly (3) to the clutch master cylinder.
19. Tug gently on the clutch hose/pipe assembly (3) to ensure proper retention into the clutch master cylinder.
20. Install the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (LNF) (Service and Repair)Catalytic Converter Replacement (LE5) (Service and Repair).
21. Install the control lever knob and boot assembly. Refer to Control Lever and/or Boot Replacement (SKY) (Service and Repair)Control Lever and/or Boot Replacement (Solstice) (Service and Repair).
Transmission Final Test and Inspection
Complete the following procedure after the transmission is installed in the vehicle:
1. With the ignition OFF or disconnected and clutch pedal depressed, crank the engine several times. Listen for any unusual noises or evidence that any parts are binding.
2. Place the transmission in neutral, start the engine and listen for any unusual noises or evidence that any parts are binding.
3. Turn OFF the ignition.
4. Perform a final inspection for the proper fluid level. Refer to Transmission Fluid Replacement (Transmission Fluid Replacement).
5. Road test the vehicle.
