Introduction
A small number of 2004 model year Scion xA and Scion xB vehicles equipped with manual transmissions may experience an intermittent rough or low engine idle at a stop due to a possible misadjusted throttle cable. Inspect and if applicable, follow the adjustment procedure in this bulletin.

Applicable Warranty*:
This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.
Repair Procedure
1. Carefully hold the Throttle Plate closed and then hold area "A" on the throttle cable and pull it in the direction shown in the illustration to remove any possible slack.
2. Measure throttle cable freeplay by measuring how much cable comes out of the cable casing when pulling the cable in the direction shown in the illustration.
Standard Range: 1 mm to 3 mm (0.04 in. to 0.12 in.)
3. If throttle cable freeplay is not in standard range, adjust the throttle cable freeplay so that 1 mm to 3 mm of the cable comes out from the cable casing.
4. Loosen and adjust the adjusting nuts to obtain proper cable adjustment.
5. Once the throttle cable is adjusted retorque adjusting nuts to:
Torque: 13 N.m (133 kgf.cm, 10 ft.lbs)
