Introduction
Some Scion xA and xB owners may feel that the A/C system does not blow cold enough air. This procedure provides a method to improve this condition.
Applicable Vehicles
^ 2004 model year Scion xA and Scion xB vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown below.

This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.
Repair Procedure
1. Remove the combination meter.
Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS), 2004 model year Scion xA or xB Repair Manual:

2. Adjust the air-mix damper control cable sub-assembly.
A. Set the temperature control knob to the "MAX COOL" position.
B. Remove the outer cable in the cable clamp.
C. With the arm in the "MAX COOL" position, the clearance between the arm and projection on the heater unit should be 1 mm (0.039 in.) or less.
D. Install the inner cable end on the control lever while holding the lever arm in the "MAX COOL" position.
E. Reinstall the outer cable in the cable clamp while slightly pressing it in the direction of the arrow.
NOTICE:
^ Be careful not to bend the cable wire.
^ If the cable wire bends, the heater or the control and accessory assembly operation may be affected.
3. Check the adjustment of the air-mix damper control cable.
A. Move the temperature control knob between the "MAX COOL" and "MAX HOT" position several times.
B. Set the temperature control knob to the "MAX COOL" position.
C. Check that the clearance between the arm and projection on the heater unit is 1 mm (0.039 in.) or less.
D. If the clearance between the arm and projection on the heater unit is 1 mm (0.039 in.) or more, re-adjust the air-mix damper control cable.
4. Reinstall the instrument panel upper.
5. Verify operation.
