Title:
BAZOOKA BASS TUBE HARDWARE CONTACT CONDITION

Models:
'04 - '05 Scion xB

Introduction

As a result of a recent engineering change, which changed the mounting hardware configuration of the Scion xB Bazooka Bass Tube (P/N PTS20-52040), a Field Fix Hardware Kit has been created for dealers to utilize when installing the Scion xB Bazooka Bass Tube, containing the original hardware configuration.

The same Field Fix Hardware Kit should also be used if the dealer experiences a customer complaint relating to an abnormal noise condition (i.e., squeaking, rattling, and/or knocking) that may stem from the original hardware contacting the steel wheel of the spare tire.

^ The original hardware configuration consisted of four (4) M6 x 35 mm bolts.

^ The Field Fix Hardware Kit (P/N PTS20-52041) consists of the following hardware:

Four (4) - M6 x 30 mm bolts: For vehicles equipped with rear cargo mat.

Two (2) - M6 x 25 mm bolts: For vehicles not equipped with rear cargo mat.

Applicable Vehicles
^ 2004 - 2005 model year Scion xB vehicles.

Repair Procedure

This repair procedure is only applicable to vehicles already equipped with the four (4) M6 x 35 mm bolts. Otherwise, if it is an original install, please follow the latest installation instructions (Rev. C - 5/26/2004).

Replacing Bazooka Bass Tube Mounting Hardware.

1. Open rear latch of vehicle, and remove the Bazooka Bass Tube by removing the two (2) mounting knobs, then unplug the wire harnesses' 14-pin Molex connector from the backside of the Bazooka Bass Tube.

2. Place the Bazooka Bass Tube on a protected surface, and remove the cargo mat (if equipped), and the two (2) rear cargo floor panels from the vehicle and place on a protected surface.

3. Using a 10 mm socket, remove the four (4) M6 x 35 mm bolts from the left (driver's side) cargo floor panel, and replace with four (4) M6 x 30 mm bolts, as shown.

* NOTE:
If the vehicle is NOT equipped with a rear cargo mat, use the two (2) M6 x 25 mm bolts on the 2 forward holes (instead of two M6 x 30 mm bolts).

4. Securely tighten the new hardware using a 10 mm socket, into the pre-existing top mounting plate, cargo mat (if equipped), and their corresponding threaded backing plates, as shown.

NOTE:
Ensure that the "curled" sides of the top mounting plates are pointing to the passenger side of the vehicle, as shown.

5. Reinstall the rear cargo panels back into the vehicle, and lock panels.

6. Reinstall the Bazooka Bass Tube by aligning the mounting brackets on the tube with the mounting plates on the panel.

7. Secure the Bazooka Bass Tube mounting brackets to the mounting plates using the existing mounting bracket knobs.

8. Reconnect the Bazooka Bass Tube to the wire harness by plugging the 14-pin Molex connector (routed behind the rear driver's side seat) into the back of the Bazooka Bass Tube.
