Introduction





Customers may experience various squeaks or rattles. Please use the field fixes shown to improve the condition:

Applicable Vehicles
^ 2004 model year Scion xB vehicles.

Warranty Information

Applicable Warranty*:

This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Repair Procedure 1

Rattle Noise From Rear Seat Back





1. Remove the deck board, spare tire and deck floor box.





2. Remove the two clips holding the back seat cover.





3. Loosen the bolts of the rear seat back as shown.





4. Keep pushing the rear seat towards the outside of the vehicle (red arrows in the illustration shows the proper direction). Re-tighten the bolts as shown.

Torque: 37 N.m (377 kgf.cm, 27 ft-lbf)

5. Reassemble in reverse order.

Repair Procedure 2

Rattle Noise From Back Door Area

1. Open the back door.





2. Remove the deck trim rear cover. For additional information refer to the Technical Information System (TIS) 2004 Scion xB Repair Manual: Exterior/Interior, Roof Headlining Assembly.

3. Loosen the striker mounting screws slightly.





4. Adjust the back door striker position forward up to 2.0 mm, as shown.

5. Re-tighten the striker mounting screws after the adjustment.

Torque: 11.5 N.m (120 kgf.cm, 101 in.lbf)

6. Re-install the deck trim rear cover.

NOTE:
Be sure to confirm that the back door can be closed after adjusting the back door striker. The back door will not close if the striker is moved more than 2.0 mm.

Repair Procedure 3

Buzz Noise from Center Register





1. Remove the center cluster panel. For additional information refer to the Technical Information System (TIS) 2004 Scion xB Repair Manual: Instrument Panel/Meter, Instrument Panel Sub-Assembly.





2. Remove the center registers.





3. Fit a felt piece to the outside of center register as shown (LH and RH).

Felt Size:

Length: 37.0 mm

Width: 3.0 mm

Thickness: 0.5 mm

4. Reinstall the center register and center cluster panel.

Repair Procedure 4





Buzz Noise from Glove Box





1. Open the glove box door.





2. Bend the striker of the glove box approximately 2 mm as shown.

Repair Procedure 5

Ticking Noise From Cowl Louver





1. Remove the front wiper arm. For additional information refer to the Technical Information System (TIS) 2004 Scion xB Repair Manual: Wiper & Washer, Windshield Wiper Assembly.

2. Remove the cowl louver.





3. Fit ten felt pieces to the claws of the cowl louver as shown.

Felt Size:

Length: 45.0 mm

Width: 15.0 mm

Thickness: 0.5 mm

4. Reinstall the cowl louver

5. Reinstall the front wiper arm

Torque: 20 N.m (205 kgf.cm, 15 ft-lbf)
