Introduction
Customers may find it difficult to fold down the rear seatback on certain 2004 - 2005 model year Scion xB vehicles due to interference with the seat belts. In order to allow ease of use, the shape of the rear seatback has been modified in production. If a customer is having difficulties with the operation of the rear seatback, the following procedures may be used.

Applicable Warranty*:
This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.
If Rear Seat Belt Replacement is Necessary:

Repair Procedure
1. Trim the Rear Seatback Carpet RH.
A. Fold the rear seats down as shown in Figure 1.
B. Identify the location and trim the rear seatback carpet as shown in Figure 2.
C. Make a 10 mm (0.4 in.) diameter hole in the rear seatback carpet as shown in Figure 2.
D. Apply Scotch Permanent Adhesive along the seam (from the back of the cover) so that the seam does not come apart.
E. Insert clip through the 10 mm (0.4 in.) hole and fasten the cover.
2. Repeat for Opposite Seatback Side.
3. If Rear Seat Belts Show Any Stains or Discoloration, Replace with New Parts.
