Removal








AXLE: REAR AXLE CARRIER: REMOVAL

REMOVAL
HINT:
- Use the same procedures for the RH and LH side.
- The procedures listed below are for the LH side.

1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL






2. DISCONNECT REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.
NOTE: Use a string or equivalent to keep the brake caliper from hanging down by the flexible hose.





3. DISCONNECT SKID CONTROL SENSOR WIRE
(a) Remove the bolt and disconnect the skid control sensor wire.
(b) Disconnect the connector.
4. REMOVE REAR DISC
5. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET
(a) Remove the parking brake shoe adjusting screw set Disassembly.
6. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY
(a) Using SST, remove the No. 1 parking brake shoe assembly Disassembly.
SST: 09718-00010
7. DISCONNECT NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY
(a) Using SST, remove the No. 2 parking brake shoe assembly Disassembly.
SST: 09718-00010






8. REMOVE NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY
(a) Using needle-nose pliers, disconnect the No.3 parking brake cable assembly from the backing plate.






9. DISCONNECT LOWER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY
(a) Loosen the lower control arm assembly bolt (member side).
(b) Remove the cotter pin and nut.
(c) Using SST, disconnect the lower control arm assembly from the axle carrier.

10. DISCONNECT REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY





(a) Remove the clip and nut.
(b) Using SST, disconnect the suspension arm (ball joint side).
SST: 09628-62011






(c) Remove the bolt and nut, and then separate the rear suspension arm.
NOTE: When removing the bolt, hold the nut in place.





11. DISCONNECT REAR UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the bolt and nut, and then disconnect the upper control arm from the axle carrier.
NOTE: When removing the bolt, hold the nut not in place.





12. REMOVE REAR AXLE CARRIER SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 4 bolts, nut, hub and bearing assembly and back plate assembly from the rear axle carrier.






13. INSPECT REAR AXLE CARRIER SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) As shown in the illustration, flip the ball joint stud back and forth 5 times before installing the nut.
(b) Using a torque wrench, turn the nut continuously at a rate of 3 to 5 seconds per turn and take the torque reading on the 5th turn.
Maximum turning torque - Torque: 3.0 Nm (30 kgf-cm, 27 in-lbf)
NOTICE:
- Neither abnormal drag nor rattle exists during the rotation.
- There should be no cracks, grease leakage or deformation on the dust cover.
