Data List / Active List
2AZ-FE ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM: SFI SYSTEM: DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST
DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST
1. DATA LIST
HINT: Using an intelligent tester or a Techstream to read the Data List allows the values or states of switches, sensors, actuators and other items to be read without removing any parts. This non-intrusive inspection can be very useful because intermittent conditions or signals may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Reading the Data List information early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time
NOTE: In the table below, the values listed under Normal Condition are reference only. Do not depend solely on these values when determining whether or not a part is faulty.
(a) Warm up the engine.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
(c) Connect the intelligent tester or the Techstream to the DLC3.
(d) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(e) Turn the tester ON.
(f) Select the following menu items:
1. Intelligent tester - Select: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DATA LIST.
2. Techstream - Select: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List.
(g) According to the display on tester, read the DATA LIST.
Intelligent tester
HINT:
- *1: If no idling conditions are specified, the shift lever should be in the N or P (neutral) position, and the A/C switch and all accessory switches should be OFF.
- *2: Values are only displayed when performing the ACTIVE TEST: VVT B1. For other ACTIVE TESTs, the DATA LIST value will be 0.
Techstream
HINT:
- *3: If no idling conditions are specified, the shift lever should be in the N or P position, and the A/C switch and all accessory switches should be OFF.
- *4: Values are only displayed when performing the Active Tests: Control the VVT Linear (Bank1). For other Active Tests, the value will be 0.
2. ACTIVE TEST
HINT: Using an intelligent tester or a Techstream to perform the Active Tests allows relays, VSVs, actuators and other items to be operated without removing any parts. This non-intrusive functional inspection can be very useful because intermittent operation may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Performing Active Tests early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time. Data List information can be displayed while performing Active Tests.
(a) Warm up the engine.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
(c) Connect the intelligent tester or the Techstream to the DLC3.
(d) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(e) Turn the tester ON.
(f) Select the following menu items:
1. Intelligent tester - Select: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / ACTIVE TEST.
2. Techstream - Select: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test.
(g) According to the display on tester, perform the Active Test.
Intelligent tester
NOTE: *1: If the display of the DATA LIST's CAT OT MF F/C item is NOT AVL, perform this ACTIVE TEST with the vehicle stopped and the engine idling. If the display of the DATA LIST's CAT OT MF F/C item is AVAIL, perform this ACTIVE TEST as described below.
1. Stop the engine and turn the ignition switch to ON to turn FUEL CUT#1 (to #4) ON
2. Start the engine.
HINT: *2: When performing the ACTIVE TEST item COMPRESS CHECK and then cranking the engine, the ECM stops the fuel injection and ignition, and measures the engine speed for each cylinder.
If one cylinder's speed is higher than the others, that cylinder's compression pressure can be concluded to be lower than the others.
1. Warm up the engine.
2. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
3. Connect an intelligent tester to the DLC3.
4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
5. Turn the tester ON.
6. Select the following menu items: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / ACTIVE TEST / COMPRESS CHECK.
7. Select the following monitor items: COMPRESSION / ENG SPEED #1 to #4 and ENG SPEED ALL.
8. Press the RIGHT or LEFT button to change the COMPRESS CHECK to ON.
HINT: Fuel injection and ignition for all cylinders is prohibited at this time, and each cylinder's engine speed measurement will enter standby mode.
9. Crank the engine until the monitor item values ENG SPEED #1 to #4 and ENG SPEED ALL change.
10. Monitor the engine speed (ENG SPEED #1 to #4 and ENG SPEED ALL) displayed on the tester.
HINT: The tester displays the values to be extremely high before cranking the engine. Each cylinder's engine speed is measured while cranking the engine and then the tester displays the actual engine speed values.
NOTICE:
- The ACTIVE TEST item COMPRESS CHECK will automatically turn off 255 seconds after the ACTIVE TEST is turned on.
- When the COMPRESS CHECK is OFF and the engine is cranked, the engine will start.
- If the COMPRESS CHECK test needs to be performed again after each cylinder's engine speed measurement has been performed once, press EXIT to return to the ACTIVE TEST menu screen. Then perform the COMPRESS CHECK test again.
- Use a fully-charged battery.
Techstream
NOTE: *1: If the display of the Data List's Catalyst OT MF F/C item is Not Avl, perform this Active Test with the vehicle stopped and the engine idling. If the display of the Data List's Catalyst OT MF F/C item is Avail, perform this Active Test as described below.
1. Stop the engine and turn the ignition switch ON to turn Control the Cylinder #1 Fuel Cut (to #4 Fuel Cut) ON.
2. Start the engine.
HINT: *2: When performing the Active Test item "Check the Cylinder Compression" and then cranking the engine, the ECM stops the fuel injection and ignition, and measures the engine speed for each cylinder.
If one cylinder's speed is higher than the others, that cylinder's compression pressure can be concluded to be lower than the others.
1. Warm up the engine.
2. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
3. Connect a Techstream to the DLC3.
4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
5. Turn the tester ON.
6. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Check the Cylinder Compression.
7. Select the following monitor items: Compression / Engine Speed of Cyl #1 to #4, Av Engine Speed of All Cyl
8. Press the RIGHT or LEFT button to change the Check the Cylinder Compression to ON.
HINT: Fuel injection and ignition for all cylinders are prohibited at this time, and each cylinder's engine speed measurement will enter standby mode.
9. Crank the engine until the monitor item values "Engine speed of Cyl #1 to #4" and "Av Engine Speed of All Cyl" change.
10. Monitor the engine speed (Engine Speed of Cyl #1 to #4, Av Engine Speed of All Cyl) displayed on the tester.
HINT: The tester displays the values to be extremely high before cranking the engine. Each cylinder's engine speed is measured while cranking the engine and then the tester displays the actual engine speed values.
NOTICE:
- The Active Test item "Check the Cylinder Compression" will automatically turn off 255 seconds after the Active Test is turned on.
- When the "Check the Cylinder Compression" is OFF and the engine is cranked, the engine will start.
- If the "Check the Cylinder Compression" test needs to be performed again after each cylinder's engine speed measurement has been performed once, press EXIT to return to the Active Test menu screen. Then perform the Check the Cylinder Compression test again.
- Use a fully-charged battery.
3. SYSTEM CHECK (Only for intelligent tester)
HINT: Performing a SYSTEM CHECK enables the system, which consists of multiple actuators, to be operated without removing any parts.
