Introduction
Some 2008 or 2009 model year Scion xD customers may complain of a squeak rattle buzz or creak noise from the instrument panel while driving. Use the following repair procedure to improve this condition.

APPLICABLE WARRANTY
^ This repair is covered under the Toyota Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
^ Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.
Parts Information
Repair Procedure
1. Figure 1 shows the area where the "A" Pillar Garnish may make contact with the side of the instrument panel.
2. Remove both "A" Pillar Garnishes
NOTE
^ Install protective tape on the edge of the dash assembly to protect the dash during "A" Pillar removal.
^ Install a protective cover on the curtain shield airbag as soon as the garnish is removed.
^ Always replace the "A" Pillar Garnish attaching clips with new clips from parts supply.
3. Using a molding removal tool (as shown in Figure 4) pull the upper portion of the "A" Pillar Garnish away from the "A" Pillar and disengage both clips.
4. Cut off clip "A".
5. Disengage the guide and claw and remove the garnish from the "A" Pillar.
6. Add Felt to the Base of the "A" Pillar Garnishes:
Attach a felt strip (1 mm thick x 5 mm wide x 80 mm long [0.04 x 0.20 x 3.15 in.]) to the lower vertical surface of the "A" Pillar Garnish (where the garnish makes contact with the side of the instrument panel).
7. Remove the temporary cover from the curtain shield airbag.
8. Reinstall the "A" Pillar Garnish by engaging the guide and the 2 attaching clips.
9. Remove the protective tape from the edge of the dash assembly.
10. Test drive the vehicle to confirm the effectiveness of the repair.
