Introduction
Some 2011 - 2013 model year Scion tC vehicles equipped with a manual transmission may exhibit a growling or rattle noise from the transmission area when the clutch pedal is released. Changes have been made to the input shaft rear bearing. Follow the procedure in this bulletin to address this condition.

Repair Procedure
1. Confirm there is a growling or rattle noise coming from the transmission a clutch pedal is fully released.
A. Is the noise coming from the transmission assembly?
^ YES - Continue to step B.
^ NO - This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable Repair Manual.
B. Does the noise go away when the clutch pedal is depressed?
^ YES - Continue to step 2.
^ NO - This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable Repair Manual.
2. Remove the clutch release cylinder then the transmission assembly.
Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS) applicable model and model year Repair Manual:
3. Disassemble the transmission assembly to access the input shaft. Refer to TIS applicable model and model year Repair Manual:
4. Disassemble the transmission input shaft.

5. Reassemble the input shaft with the NEW bearing.

6. Reassemble the transmission assembly.

7. Reinstall the transmission assembly.

8. Test drive the vehicle and confirm the noise is eliminated.
