APPLICABILITY: ALL 1985 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AERODYNAMIC HEADLIGHTS
SUBJECT: HEADLIGHT ALIGNMENT
FIGURE 1:
FIGURE 2:
To properly align aerodynamic headlights used on some 1985 Subaru vehicles, SOA recommends using the Hoppy Headlight Aimer (P/N B4A) with adapter (P/N 0202). These aligners and adapters are available nationally through Hopkins Manufacturing Corporation. When aligning aerodynamic headlights the alignment adapter settings should be positioned as illustrated in Figure 1 and Figure 2.
WHEN ALIGNING THE HEADLIGHTS ON ANY VEHICLE EQUIPPED WITH AIR SUSPENSION MAKE SURE THAT THE VEHICLE'S SUSPENSION IS AT ITS LOWER HEIGHT POSITION TO ENSURE PROPER HEADLIGHT ALIGNMENT.
It is recommended during PDI, when checking sun roof operation, to ensure that the inner lip of the sun roof opening is free of foreign material.
If after a thorough cleaning, a complete closing problem still exists, refer to the procedure below to adjust the motor torque.
NOTE: Should it be necessary to adjust the sun roof motor torque, the procedure can be claimed under warranty using the following operation number (152-130) and time (0.3).
1 ) Remove the access plug in the headliner directly under the
drive motor to expose the adjusting nut.
2) Drop down the headliner in front of the sun roof to gain access to the drive motor.
3) Bend back the lock tabs on the adjusting nut of the drive motor.
4) Using a 14 mm wrench, turn the adjusting nut clockwise 180~ while holding the motor shaft with the hand-crank supplied in the vehicle's maintenance tool kit to adjust motor torque.
5) Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position and close the sun roof lid to check whether its rear section lifts up to position properly. Repeat the open/close operation several times to confirm that the motor torque is properly adjusted.
NOTE: IF THE MOTOR TORQUE IS STILL INSUFFICIENT, TURN THE ADJUSTING NUT CLOCKWISE SLIGHTLY, THEN RECHECK THE SUN ROOF OPERATION. IF THE SUN ROOF STILL DOES NOT OPERATE PROPERLY, CHECK THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS, AND/OR THEN CHECK THE PROPER PROCEDURE FOR SERVICING IN THE 1985 SERVICE MANUAL:
a) Unlevel installation of the sun roof lid onto the roof panel.
b) Build-up of the protective material on the main-seal of the sun roof lid.
c) Intrusion of dust, dirt, or other foreign material into the guide rail assembly of the sun roof.
6) Stake the lock tabs on the adjusting nut of the motor shaft.
7) Reinstall the headliner, headliner trim, and access plug to their assigned position.
8) Close the sun roof and sunshade, then turn the ignition key to OFF.
