Door/Ignition Key - Light Repair

SUBJECT: KEY LIGHT REPAIR
A modified key light was introduced into production on December 18, 1984, beginning with the VIN's listed below:
4-Door 218299
Station Wagon 431417
When replacement of any early production key light head is necessary, it must be replaced with a modified key light head - (P/N 57423GA240).
In a situation where a key light head is inoperative due to a discharged battery, the battery may be replaced with a Sanyo CR16203V replacement battery or the equivalent.
In order to properly disassemble and reassemble the new modified key light, follow the procedure listed below.
FIGURE 1 - KEY LIGHT REPAIR:
1) Holding the key with the Subaru Star logo upward, insert a small straight blade screw driver into the slot provided on the right hand side of the key light (See Figure 1).
2) Using great care not to damage the key light housing, turn the screw driver until the two halves separate slightly, then slide the upper and lower halves in opposite directions (See Figure 1).

3) Set the key plate in position on Side "A" (See Figure 2A).

4) After wiping both sides of the battery off with a clean cloth, place it in Side "B" with the positive side facing up (see Figure 2B). Make sure that the negative side is making good contact.

5) While holding the battery in place, turn Side "B" over and place it on Side "A", sliding Slide "B" forward until it snaps into place. (See Figure 3).
