HITACHI CARBURETORS DATE: 04-12-85
SUBJECT: CHOKE DIAPHRAGM SPRING
FIGURE 1 - MODIFIED CHOKE DIAPHRAGM:
A modified choke diaphragm spring (P/N 16275AA010) has been installed on all 1985 vehicles equipped with Hitachi carburetors. (See Figure 1).
This modified choke spring has been used starting with February 29, 1985 production date and Engine Number 747 941.
Should you encounter a complaint of an over-rich stumble after a cold start on any vehicle produced before the production date and engine number listed above, it is recommended to replace the old choke diaphragm spring with a modified one to improve this condition.
In order to install a modified spring, refer to the instructions below:
FIGURE 2 - CHOKE DIAPHRAGM:
1) Remove the air cleaner.
2) Cover the air horn of the carburetor with a clean cloth or the equivalent, to prevent anything from falling into the intake.
3) Compress the choke diaphragm spring by hand to relieve tension on the choke connecting rod.
4) Disconnect the choke connecting rod from the choke diaphragm plunger. (See Figure 2).
5) Remove the old choke diaphragm spring and install the new one with the spring end properly seated in the stopper plate. (See Figure 2).
6) Compress the new choke diaphragm spring by hand and insert the choke connecting rod into the choke diaphragm plunger, then release the choke spring tension, again making sure that the spring is seated in the stopper plate.
7) Remove the clean cloth or the equivalent from the air horn of the carburetor.
8) Reinstall the air cleaner.
This operation has a time allowance of 0.3 Hrs. and can be claimed under Flat Rate Number 427-201 (Failure Code DEV-48).
