1983 CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEMS INFORMATION

There are three cruise control systems offered for 1983 Subaru vehicles. Table 1 lists part numbers and applications for these systems.

The Line Installed cruise control is easily identified by the location of the on/off switch. This switch is located on top of the steering column, directly behind the steering wheel. A multi-function sub-switch is used to operate the system.

This sub switch is mounted on a stalk located at the right side of the steering column. (See Figure 1).

Cruise controls SOA 460 450 and SOA 460 550 can be identified by the location of the on/off switch which is located on the right side of the lower dash panel. A multi-function sub switch is mounted on a stalk located at the right side of the steering column. (See Figure 2).

Cruise control SOA 460 650 can be identified by the off/on/resume slide switch with set button which is mounted on the turn signal lever. (See Figure 3).

SUBARU CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEMS FEATURES

All Subaru cruise control systems have the following common features:

SET FUNCTION - Turn the cruise control "on". The vehicle will maintain a constant speed after the "set" button is depressed and released if the vehicle is traveling between 27 MPH and 85 MPH.*

RESUME FUNCTION - The cruise control will release the vehicle from the set speed if the brake or clutch pedals are depressed. The cruise control will return the vehicle to the set speed when "resume" is engaged and released, if the vehicle is traveling between 27 MPH and 85 MPH* and the on/off switch or ignition switch have not been turned off.
