APPLICABILITY ALL TURBO VEHICLES
SUBJECT: TURBO UNIT REMOVAL PRECAUTIONS
REFER TO THE APPLICABLE SERVICE MANUAL FOR DETAILED TURBO REMOVAL INSTRUCTIONS..
THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE SHOULD BE PERFORMED SO THAT THE EXHAUST PIPES (FRONT AND CENTER) AND TURBO UNIT ARE NOT DAMAGED DURING TURBO UNIT REMOVAL BY FROZEN TURBO RETAINING NUTS AND BOLTS.
A. PRECAUTIONS
1) PERFORM THE REMOVAL OF TURBO UNIT AFTER IT HAS COOLED SUFFICIENTLY.
2) ALWAYS USE PROPER TOOLS ON THE NUTS AND BOLTS. IF NECESSARY, REMOVE SURROUNDING PARTS TO MAKE THE NUTS AND BOLTS MORE ACCESSIBLE.
B. REMOVAL
1) APPLY A RUST PENETRANT (CRC, WD 40, ETC) OR THE EQUIVALENT TO THE THREADED PORTION OF NUTS AND BOLTS, AND ALLOW TO SOAK FOR SEVERAL MINUTES.
2) LOOSEN NUTS AND BOLTS BY TURNING THEM 10 TO 40 DEGREES.
3) REAPPLY RUST PENETRANT TO THREADED PORTION OF NUTS AND BOLTS, AND AGAIN ALLOW TO SOAK FOR SEVERAL MINUTES.
4) REMOVE NUTS AND BOLTS.
NOTE:
1) IF A STUD BOLT STRIPS, A FLANGE BOLT - (P.N.901000032) CAN BE USED IN ITS PLACE.
2) TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS - 4.3 - 5.3 kg-m, (31 - 38 ft.lbs.)
3) ALWAYS REPLACE THE OLD GASKET WITH A NEW ONE.
4) ALWAYS USE AN ANTI-SEIZE COMPOUND ON THREADS WHEN REINSTALLING NUTS AND BOLTS.
