SUBJECT: MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS AND PRECAUTIONS FOR THE TURBO 4WD

It is very important to be aware that turbo vehicles require an oil change every 3,750 miles or three months, whichever first occurs. This oil change interval is necessary to maintain the proper operation of the turbo since engine oil is circulated through the turbo for its lubrication.

A warning label will be installed in production on the driver door of the turbo vehicle to indicate that an oil change is required at 3,750 miles or three months.

You should also be aware of the engine shut off precaution concerning the turbo vehicle. It is extremely important that the turbo engine be shut off from idle speed only. If the engine is revved up just prior to engine shut off, the turbo shaft will continue to turn at high speed for several minutes. Since the engine oil pump is not operating with the engine shut off, lubricating oil is not being supplied to the turbo bearings; therefore, the turbo could continue to operate without oil. This could cause turbo shaft bearing damage.

Please review these items with all Sales and Service personnel in your organization. The Sales Department should inform new owners of turbo vehicles of these precautions and maintenance intervals.

Should you have any questions concerning the turbo or its maintenance requirements, please contact your District Service Manager.
