SUBJECT: OPERATION OF U.S. EMISSION SPECIFICATION
VEHICLES IN EUROPE AND THEIR RETURN TO THE UNITED STATES



This Service Bulletin is being supplied as supplemental information to Service Bulletin number 11-19-84, dated 04-02-84, Chart 2.
NOTES:

A. THE SPECIAL OIL PAN INSTALLED ON 1983 MY SUBARU AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION VEHICLES DOES NOT HAVE TO BE REMOVED UPON RETURN TO THE U.S.

B. OPERATION OF U.S SPECIFICATION VEHICLES ON EUROPEAN FUEL OF THE PROPER OCTANE SHOULD NOT DAMAGE THE ENGINE OR FUEL SYSTEM. (PROPER OCTANE RATINGS ARE LISTED IN THE VEHICLES OWNERS MANUAL).

C. VEHICLE DRIVEABILITY AND PERFORMANCE WHILE IN USE IN EUROPE ARE DEPENDENT ON FUEL OCTANE RATING AND QUALITY.

D. OPERATION OF CATALYST EQUIPPED VEHICLES ON LEADED FUELS WILL REQUIRE CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACEMENT UPON RETURN TO THE U.S.

F. TURBO/EFI VEHICLES SHOULD BE OPERATED ON UNLEADED FUELS ONLY. EUROPEAN OPERATION IS NOT RECOMMENDED.

G. THE EPA PERMITS THE USEAGE OF AN APPROVED AFTERMARKET CATALYTIC CONVERTER IF THE VEHICLE IS BEYOND 5 YEARS OLD OR PAST 50,000 MILES.
3. WARRANTY INFORMATION

The cost of modifications to a vehicle either before leaving the U.S. or upon return are not reimbursable under the terms of the Subaru warranty.
