High Altitude Kit - Updates: Overview

SUBJECT: UPDATED HIGH ALTITUDE KIT
This bulletin is provided to dealers in low altitude areas for information only. Three updated High Altitude Kits are available for use on 1983 49 State vehicles used primarily above 4,000 feet. These kits contain a barometric compensator or switch. Refer to the following chart for part numbers and applications:

A 483 337 210 FED LDV HITACHI (49 STATE FWD)
B 483 337 310 FED LDV CARTER (49 STATE FWD)
C 483 337 410 FED LDT HITACHI (49 STATE 4WD)


Vehicles previously fitted with High Altitude Kits do not need the updated kit added.

Consult Subaru Service Bulletin number 11-11-82 dated 11-19-82 for service information on the early 1983 high altitude kit.

An instruction sheet is supplied with each kit. A copy of the instruction sheets for the kits listed above are attached for your reference.

Note that the instruction sheets include the installation procedure for the kit and the procedure for returning the vehicle to low altitude specifications.

When returning a vehicle to low altitude specifications, return all removed parts to the owner of the vehicle for future use if necessary.

FOR CARS WITH HIGH ALTITUDE SWITCH






Some Subaru models have a High Altitude Aneroid Senosr Switch which is mounted in the location where the Cruise Control Vacuum Valve and Reservior are installed. (FIG. 1) On these cars the High Altitude Switch should be re-located as follows:

1. Remove the High Altitude Switch from the firewall and move it out of the way. The wire can remain connected.
2. Install the Vacuum Valve and Reservoir according to the Cruise Control Instructions.
3. Re-install the High Altitude Switch on the Vacuum Reservoir bolt nearest the spare tire. (FIG. 2) Be sure the High Altitude Switch is still connected to the cars wiring harness. (Black, 1 pin connector.)
