The following additional explanation should be added next to the right last line.

^ In case that the oil clearance of crankshaft bearings does not reach the limit and the engine knocking noise is generated, select under size bearings in suitable size to minimize the oil clearance within the standard range as shown in the table (on page 3-57).

NOTE:
a. When selecting crankshaft bearings, the following combination can be made as well as using same size bearings for both right and left crankcase halves:

The table summarizes the amounts of reduction in oil clearance for various combination of bearing halves.

(Combination of Crankshaft bearings)

b. If you use undersize bearings, please confirm that the crankshaft can be turned smoothly by hand (at a torque of 1.5 kg-m or less), to prevent the bearings from seizing after assembling the crankcase just before installing the pistons.

Fig. 9-2 should be superseded by the following one.

^ Front Suspension

NOTE:
For all 2WD vehicles, damper strut has been modified from around December, 1982 production. There is interchangeability between new undisassemblable type damper strut and old disassemblable type one. Never disassemble the undisassemblable type one.

Items 4) and 5) should be superseded (see illustration).

^ Remove compressor oil as follows:
1. With the compressor upside down, completely drain the oil through the suction port (cast-out letter "S" mark side). Be sure to use a clean container to receive the oil. When the oil stops flowing out, rotate the clutch hub (compressor shaft) two or three times to completely drain the oil.

NOTE:
When replacing two or mare of the parts indicated in the above chart, follow each instruction under the proper charging method column for the proper amount of oil to be added.

-Example-
When replacing the evaporator and compressor, drain all oil out of the new compressor and then charge the compressor with the total amount of 140 ml (4.7 US fl oz, 4.9 Imp fl oz) oil [70 ml (2.4 US fl oz, 2.5 Imp fl oz) for the evaporator and 70 ml (2.4 US fl oz, 2.5 Imp fl oz for compressor].

CAUTION:
a. The oil should not be transfused from a container into another, as the failure will possibly cause moisture to mix with the oil.
b. The used oil should not be returned into a container.

c. The oil should not be used if its state of preservation is not clear enough. If compressor is inoperative due to defective compressor or heavy loss of refrigerant, exchange the compressor through the procedure from 2 to 5.
