Cruise Control - `Loctite' Equipped Screw Removal

84subaru1 NUMBER 15-18-84

DATE 11-29-84
APPLICABILITY 1985 STATION WAGON AND 4-DOOR SEDAN VEHICLES TO BE EQUIPPED WITH ACCESSORY CRUISE CONTROL

SUBJECT: DELETION OF "LOCTITE" ON TURN SIGNAL HANDLE SCREW
When installing cruise control on early production Station Wagon and 4-Door Sedan vehicles, it will be necessary to soften the Loctite material on the screw which retains the plastic handle on the turn signal shaft to allow for its removal.

A supplemental instruction sheet explaining a removal procedure for vehicles with Loctite equipped screws is included in all Cruise Control kits.

These instructions are reprinted on the next page.

Several cautions to be aware of before attempting this procedure are:

1) A large soldering gun as illustrated in the supplemental instruction sheet included with some early 1985 cruise control kits is not necessary or recommended due to interior space limitations and the possibility of damage to interior trim.

2) Do not attempt to remove the screw without heating, as the phillips head may strip out.

3) Care must be taken to avoid twisting of the turn signal handle as the screw may break off flush with the turn signal rod.
The following are approximate starting VIN's when the "Loctite" will no longer be used on the screw which retains the turn signal handle.
