Digital Dash - Removal & Replacement Procedure

APPLICABILITY 1985 TO '87 XT MODELS EQUIPPED WITH A DIGITAL DASH

SULJECT: DIGITAL DASH REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT

Should it be necessary to remove an XT digital dash unit, follow this procedure for removing and installing the unit.

Step 1) Remove the lower panel

Step 2) Remove the heater crossover duct

Step 3) Remove the mounting screws on the lower cover assembly. See Figure 1.
Step 4) Disconnect the instrument panel wiring connectors located
next to the left hand kick panel.

Step 5) Disconnect the speedometer cable.

Step 6) Lower the steering column to the lowest tilt position.

Step 7) Remove the two outer nuts on the meter bracket of the steering column. See Figure 2.
Step 8) Remove the dash unit by lifting up and out.

Note: Carefully remove the wiring.

Step 9) Install the new dash unit in the reverse order of removal.

Note: If the original odometer unit is not being transferred to the replacement dash unit, it will be necessary to affix an odometer label. Please refer to Service Bulletin 01-102-86, dated 11-24-86 for further details.
