Headliner - Popping or Creaking Noises

APPLICABILITY 1985 STATION WAGON DATE 7-23-85
SUBJECT: HEADLINER TRIM RATTLE OR NOISE
Should you encounter a 1985 Station Wagon with the left or right front headliner trim creating creaking or popping noises while driving, refer to the repair procedure below:
FIGURE 1 - Headliner Trim:
1) Remove the "A" pillar panel, "B" pillar panel, and the "C" quarter pillar trim panel according to the instructions on pages 18 and 19, Section 5-3 of the 1985 Service Manual. (see Figure 1).
FIGURE 2 - Front Headliner Trim:
2) Remove the front headliner trim by removing the three (3) screws that secure it to the roof frame. (See Figure 2).

3) With the front headliner trim removed, install a piece of electrical tape on the section which mates with the roof frame above the "B" pillar. (See Figure 3).
4) Reinstall the headliner trim panel, making sure that no tape is showing after the trim is installed.
5) Reinstall the "A" pillar panel, "B" pillar panel, and the "C" quarter pillar panel.
6) Road test the vehicle to ensure that the noise has been eliminated.
This procedure can be claimed under Operation #913-241 for one side or Operation #913-245 for both sides.
The time allotted for these operations is as follows:
Operation # B 913-241 Roof Rail Trim - R&R - One - 0.4 Hrs.
Operation # C 913-245 Roof Rail Trim - R&R -
Each Additional - Add 0.2 Hrs.
