NUMBER: 12-30-85

APPLICABILITY ALL 1985 4-DOOR SEDANS AND STATION WAGONS 08-23-85
EQUIPPED WITH POWER SUNROOFS

SUBJECT: HEADLINER REPAIR

Should you encounter a 1985 4-Door Sedan or Station Wagon (equipped with a power sunroof) in which the headliner has separated from the roof frame at the front edge of the sunroof opening, headliner clips (P/N 92025GA100) are available to re-secure the headliner in proper position. Follow the procedure below when installing these clips:

1) Open the sunshade and the sunroof.

2) Pull back the front section of the rubber garnish that borders the inside of the sunroof opening.

3) Slightly pull down the front section of the headliner at its rear edge.

FIGURE 1 - Headliner Repair:

4) The electrical connector located to the left of the sunroof motor may cause the headliner to sag. Push this connector as far foward as possible to eliminate any interference with the headliner. (See Figure 1).

FIGURE 2A - Headliner Exposed:

5) With the front portion of the roof frame and the headliner exposed, install two headliner clips 11" from either edge of the sunroof opening. (See Figure 2A).

FIGURE 2B - Roof Frame:

NOTE : WHEN INSTALLING THE SUNROOF "W" CLIPS, THE CURVED PORTION OF THE HEADLINER CLIP MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE ROOF FRAME, WHILE THE BARBED PORTION MUST BE INSERTED IN THE MIDDLE FOAM SECTION OF THE HEADLINER SO THAT THE CLIP WILL NOT SHOW. (See Figure 2B).
6) Reinstall the rubber garnish around the inside of the sunroof opening, tapping it into place with a plastic mallet to ensure proper seating.

FIGURE 3 - Rubber Garnish:

7) If the forward portion of the rubber garnish has a gap between it and the headliner, put a small bead of 3M Weatherstrip adhesive to secure it to the headliner. (See Figure 3).
