The exhaust gas recirculation system, Fig. 9 is to control NOx formation by recirculating part of exhaust gas into the intake manifold and depressing the combustion temperature in the cylinder. The system is designed to circulate part of exhaust gas from the exhaust port into the intake manifold through the EGR valve. The amount of exhaust gas recirculated is regulated by the EGR valve, which is actuated by the vacuum signals according to engine operating conditions.
NOTE: EGR passage into intake manifold must be free of excessive deposits , otherwise EGR system performance will suffer. Inspect and clean passageway anytime EGR valve is removed.
