Headlight Switch - Service Parts/Installation

SUBJECT: HEADLIGHT SWITCH SERVICE PARTS

The headlight switch is available as a separate component part from the headlight and sub switch assembly.

Headlight switch component part number 83002GA650 can be used to repair the following headlight and subswitch assemblies:

83002GA240 83002GA242 83002GA260
83002GA250 83002GA252

The headlight switch component part can be ordered through normal parts channels using part number 83002GA650.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Remove the control wing by following the procedure in the applicable Subaru Service Manual.

^ 1985 XT vehicles use the 1985 Subaru XT Service Manual section 6-2, pages 40 and 44.

^ 1986 XT vehicles use the 1986 Subaru XT Service Manual section 6-2, pages 54 and 58.

3. Remove the headlight switch component from the left hand control wing.

Note: Do not remove the sub switch assembly from the control wing.

4. Locate and disconnect the 6-pole (white) female connector and the 21-pole (black) male connector from the column harness and cut the five wires which connect the headlight component to the 21-pole (black) male connector as shown in figure 1.

5. Tape the remaining sections of cut wire to the sub switch harness of the 21-pole (black) male connector as shown in figure 2.

6. Install the new headlight switch component part into the control wing and reassemble the control wing case.

7. Connect the 21-pole (black) male connector from the sub switch assembly into the 21-pole (black) female connector found on the headlight component switch wiring harness. Connect the 21-pole (black) male connector from the headlight component switch wiring harness to the column harness. See the wiring illustration, figure 3.

8. Reassemble the control wing onto the steering column assembly. See Figure 4 for proper harness routing.
9. Test all the switches found on the control wing for proper operation of the component or components they control.

This procedure can be claimed for vehicles within the terms of the Subaru Limited Warranty using the following information:
