THIS SERVICE BULLETIN IS FOR INFORMATION ONLY
Measuring the valve stem height should be performed whenever the valves and valve seats are being serviced to ensure proper operation.

With the valve firmly against the valve seat, measure from the valve spring machined surface on the cylinder head to the tip of the valve stem using a depth gauge or vernier caliper with depth capabilities. Compare the measurement with the chart. See Figure 1.

NOTE: IF THE VALVE STEM HEIGHT IS GREATER THAN THE SPECIFICATION IN
THE CHART REPLACE THE VALVE SEAT AND/OR VALVE, WHICHEVER IS
NECESSARY.
