Polypropylene and Polyurethane Bumper Painting Procedure
Manufacturer: DuPont DeNemours* The DuPont system for repair of Subaru bumpers.
^ XT MODEL BUMPER SKIN (POLYPROPYLENE)
^ Wash surface to be painted with 3812-S enamel reducer to remove wax, grease, etc.
^ Apply one full coat of 329-S primer
^ Allow primer to dry one hour before applying top coat.
^ Top coat with either DuPont Lucite or Centari top coats.
^ SUBARU POLYURETHANE BUMPERS
^ Wash surface to be painted with 3812-S
^ Seal with 615S vari-prime or velvaseal 1984S, 1985S, and 1986S
^ Colorcoat basecoat/clearcoat
^ Lucite acrylic basecoat followed by 580S clear with 582S activator or
^ Centari basecoat followed by 780S clear with 782S activator
^ Colorcoat solid colors
^ lucite acrylic with 350S flexlar
^ centari with 793S hardener

* The Sherwin-Williams topcoat system for Subaru bumpers.
All systems require the use of plastic primer (P3C24) for adhesion to the bumper. The following is the Sherwin-Williams recommendation for refinishing a replacement bumper:
1. Solvent clean bumper with R7K156 (Sher-Will-Clean)
2. Allow to dry and prime area to be painted with P3C24 according to label directions.
3. Topcoat with one of the following systems:
(NOTE: These topcoat systems are listed in order of decreasing impact resistance).
A. Acrylyd acrylic enamel + V6V241 + V6V299.
B. Acrylyd acrylic enamel + V6V299.
C. Acrylic lacquer + V6V299
D. Acrylyd acrylic enamel + V6V241
