A/C - Heater Lever Movement Restricted

89subaru02

NUMBER 10-50-89

DATE 05-29-89
'87 TO '89 "L" SERIES EXCLUDING XT & HATCHBACK MODELS

SUBJECT: HEATER GEARS

NOTE: THIS TSB HAS BEEN REVISED BY TSB # 105690 DATED 1-29-90

This adjustment only applies to "L" series models with the modified type of heater gears which are standard equipment on '87 and later models.

If you encounter restricted heater lever movement from the top to approximately center position and if only cold air is emitted from the blower duct work regardless of which mode is selected, then the gears may be out of synchronization.

- Remove the lower trim panel below the steering column, open the cable cover and examine the heater gears for proper alignment.

To confirm proper gear alignment, manually move the gears and note their position. If the gears are not in proper position or synchronization, use the following procedures:

- Using a short Phillips type screwdriver, remove the side gear screw and plastic washer.

- Obtain a small mirror and position the mirror behind the gas pedal so the lever gear is clearly visible.

- Realign the gears in proper position.

- Install a small flat washer between the screw and the plastic washer, then secure the assembly using a short Phillips type screwdriver.

- Test lever action with engine warmed up so both hot and cold air is emitted from the duct work.

- Reassemble under dash cover and all other parts.
