Fig. 5 Exploded View Of Drum Brake Assembly:

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove rear wheels.
3. Remove hub cap, cotter pin, castle nut, conical spring and center piece.
4. Loosen adjusting nut at rear end of parking brake rod to slacken cable tension.
5. Remove brake drum, then insert screwdriver through access hole in backing plate and allow strut assembly adjuster lever to pivot on strut, thereby placing it in initial position.
6. Using suitable pliers, remove shoe hold down springs, Fig. 5.
7. Remove shoes, then disconnect parking brake cable from lever.
8. Reverse procedure to install.
