II.Option Kit Remote Arm Disarm Installation Tips
A. When mounting the receiver to the security system electronic control module, the electronic control module must be removed from the steering column to gain access to the mounting stud on the control module. This will prevent damage to the vehicle wiring harness adjacent to the module.B. Programming the Remote Transmitter
Note: The transmitter will send a frequency signal, (not an infrared signal), so you must hold the button down for a minimum of 2 seconds after the installation of the receiver module is completed and the battery terminal is reconnected. Once the battery terminal is connected, the parking lights will flash in one second intervals. The parking light flashes indicate there are no transmitter codes present in the control units five memory banks. Perform the following procedure:
Initial Memory Bank Entry Procedure
* Valet switch in the "on" position.
* All doors closed, including trunk and hatch.
* Ignition switch in the "off" position, keys removed.
Using the remote transmitter aimed at the antenna in the driver's door side glass weather stripping:
1. Press Button No. 1 and hold for 2 seconds.
2. Press Button No. 2 and hold for 2 seconds.
3. Press Buttons No. 1 and No. 2 simultaneously for 2 seconds.
4. Press Button No. 1 and hold for 2 seconds.
5. Press Button No. 2 and hold for 2 seconds.
Now the parking lights will cease to flash. If not, press either of the two buttons on the transmitter or remove the battery negative terminal and begin again.
Note: Before using the renote transmitting, perform the following normal or passive driver sequence:
Open the driver's door and get into the vehicle and close the door. Make sure all doors are closed. Make sure the valet switch is in the "on" position. Insert the ignition key and start the vehicle and allow the engine to operate for approximately ten seconds. Shut off the ignition, remove the key and exit the vehicle. Make sure the driver's door is fully closed.
The system will now properly recognize the remote transmitter's signals and will arm and disarm the system. If equipped with keyless entry, the transmitter will activate the door lock actuator. Press either button No. 1, No. 2 or buttons 1 and 2 simultaneously and the security system will respond by:
One honk of the horn and flash of the parking lights, indicating the system is armed and if equipped vith the keyless entry the doors will lock.
Press either-button No. 1 or No. 2 or buttons No. 1 and No. 2 simultaneously and the security system will respond by:
Two honks of the horn and two flashes of the parking lights indicating the system is disarmed. The keyless entry actuator will unlock the doors, if equipped.
Note: If you arm the vehicle with the remote transmitter, it must be disarmed with the remote transmitter. The ignition switch will not disarm the system.
If all doors are closed, the valet switch is "on", and the remote transmitter is not used to arm the system, the control unit will automatically arm the system in approximately 27 seconds. The remote transmitter and the ignition switch can be used to disarm the system. The keyless entry system will not operate in the automatic arm mode.
C. Remote transmitter troubleshooting
REMOTE CONTROL SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED IN THE KIT
SPECIAL NOTE: You have a choice to arm/disarm your vehicle with the remote transmitter, and this feature will better ensure your vehicle's security. However, you must pay close attention to the transmitter performance.
Battery Replacement
If the range of the optional remote transmitter decreases to within 5 feet of the vehicle, the batteries may need replacement. Replace the batteries with eight # 392, RW-47, # 192, # 547, or SR-41 batteries. Follow the instructions in the Operation Guide to perform the replacement.
Remote Arm/Disarm
If you arm the vehicle automatically (without the remote transmitter), it may be disarmed with the transmitter or by entering the vehicle with the key and turning the ignition switch to the "on" position.
If you arm the vehicle with the remote transmitter, it must be disarmed with the remote transmitter.
Transmitter Not Functioning after Vehicle is Armed with Remote Control
If the remote transmitter has become lost, damaged, or the batteries need replacement after the vehicle has been armed by the remote transmitter, the alarm will activate instantly if you enter the vehicle. To deactivate:
Method "A":
^ Remove the driver's side under dash panel.
^ Locate the 20 ga. black wire with the red tracer with an in line fuse holder.
^ Open the fuse holder and remove the fuse.
Method "B":
^ Disconnect the 17 pin module connector.
Method "C":
Replace the batteries and disarm the system using the remote transmitter.
Note: High traffic areas where many radio frequency signals and other high frequency devices are being used may affect the transmitter to vehicle arm/disarm distance.
