Idle Speed/Throttle Actuator - Electronic: Testing and Inspection

Bypass Air Control Valve Schematic:

A faulty bypass air control valve will set code 24 in the on-board diagnostic system. Refer to the schematic diagram and test the valve with the diagnostic chart.

Wire color code identification:

L: Blue
B: Black
Y: Yellow
G: Green
R: Red
W: White
Br: Brown
Lg: Light green
Gr: Gray

BYPASS AIR CONTROL VALVE DIAGNOSTIC CHART

Bypass Air Control Valve Testing:

CHECK BYPASS AIR VALVE POWER VOLTAGE (AUTO. TRANS. ONLY)

With ignition "ON," measure voltage between air valve connector terminal (E9)2 and ground. It should read 10V minimum.

CHECK BYPASS AIR VALVE

Disconnect air valve connector and measure resistance between valve terminals as follows:

Terminal: Resistance:
1-3 9.6 Ohms (manual trans.)
1-2 9 Ohms (auto. trans.)
2-3 9 Ohms (auto. trans.)

CHECK ECU VOLTAGE

With ignition "ON," measure voltage between ECU connector terminals and ground as follows:

Connector & terminal: Voltage:
(F47)2-Ground 7V (auto. trans.)
12V (manual trans.) [1]
(F47)1-Ground 6V (auto. trans.)
0V (manual trans.)

[1] Should read 0V after ignition "ON" for 1 minute.

CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN ECU AND AIR VALVE

1. Disconnect ECU and air control valve connectors.
2. Measure resistance between ECU and air control valve connectors and ground as follows:

Connector & terminal: Resistance:
(F47)2-(E9)1 0 Ohms
(F47)1-(E9)3 0 Ohms
(E9)1-Ground 1M Ohms min.
(E9)3-Ground 1M Ohms min.
