CARBURETED VEHICLES

SUBJECT: RADIATOR REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES


The L-Series radiator and thermostat has been modified in production (except A/T Turbo), starting with the following VINS:

ALUMINUM ALLOY CORE RADIATOR 3-STAGE THERMOSTAT

4 Door 203539 11/13/90 4 Door 202213 09/14/90
S/W 408661 11/13/90 S/W 405163 09/14/90

The radiator was changed to an alluminum alloy core. When installing the aluminum alloy core radiator you must also replace the thermostat and the radiator-outlet hose (bottom hose) with the new parts listed on the chart below. (See Figure 1.)

Important: The thermostat and hose must be replaced to prevent thermal shock to the radiator, and to ensure proper coolant flow from the radiator to the engine.
