SUBJECT: SUNROOF LEAK TESTING AND ADJUSTING PROCEDURES

FIGURE 1:

If you encounter a sunroof which requires an adjustment due to a water leak or air leak, you should perform the following steps:

1) To confirm the problem area, temporarily block off the air outlet ports located at both rear quarter panel areas. See Figure 1. These areas are most accessible from the interior of the vehicle.
2) Turn the heater or air conditioner on and switch the fan speed to the high position. Close all doors and windows. This will slightly pressurize the interior of the vehicle.

NOTE: DO NOT USE THE A/C RECIRCULATE POSITION.

3) Using a soapy water solution, wet the suspected problem area. The leaking area will be indicated by bubbles.

4) To adjust the sunroof, remove the left and right guide rail covers by pressing the center of each hold down clip.
5) Loosen the eight securing nuts and adjust the glass. The outside surface of the "glass" should be level or slightly higher than the roof panel. The glass can be raised or lowered by removing or adding shims. (P/N 65416GA030)

Note: This information is a correction to the 1990 Legacy Service manual G201BE, Section 5.

6) As a final adjustment, the glass should be moved forward an additional 0.039 inches, then secured. This is to assure proper operation of the tilt feature. The sunroof weather strip should also be sprayed with a silicone spray.

7) After all adjustments are performed, verify the repair by using the soapy water solution again.

8) Be sure to open the air outlet ports on each quarter panel.

Steps 1, 2, and 3 can also be used to cheek for proper window adjustments, door adjustment or any other area of the passenger's compartment at which a water or air leak is suspected.
