SUBJECT: HOW TO REMOVE BROKEN PIECES OF DIPSTICK FROM TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY

A. PROCEDURE

1) Insert magnetic flexible finger into the diff. dipstick guide, and let it go about 300 mm (1 ft.) into the converter case.

2) Probe for the broken pieces in the converter case with the magnetic finger.

3) Pull out the magnetic finger slowly so that the broken pieces adhere to the magnet and are not caught at the lower end of the diff. level gauge guide.

Fig. 1:

4) Measure the removed pieces to see if you have gotten all of the broken pieces, as compared to an undamaged dipstick. See fig. 1.

5) If not successful, remove drain plug and drain diff. oil. There is a possibility that the broken pieces are stuck to magnet of the drain plug or will come out with the oil.

6) If necessary, insert the magnetic finger in the drain hole and probe for broken pieces.

Fig. 2:

NOTE: Intentionally attempt to probe the "A" area shown in fig. 2 because it is rather difficult to probe this area.

7) Refill the diff. to the proper level and install a modified dipstick.

B. This operation can be claimed under warranty:

1) Remove and replace dipstick, includes removing pieces with magnet. 0.2 hrs.

2) Drain and refill diff., includes removing broken pieces. 0.5 hrs.
