SUBJECT: CLUTCH PEDAL ASSIST SPRING FALLING OFF


Should a condition occur where the clutch pedal assist spring falls off of the clutch pedal assembly, Kit # X3601AA000 should be used to repair the condition. This Kit is available through normal parts channels and was incorporated in production since May, 1990.

CAUTION: TO PROTECT YOUR EYES, SAFETY GLASSES SHOULD BE WORN.

Installation Procedure

1. Remove lower instrument panel cover.

2. Before installing the new kit, first check the clutch spring assist arm to ensure that it is parallel with the clutch pedal stay. If necessary, the assist arm may be bent to make it parallel, as shown in Figure 1.

3. To install the new spring, remove both old bushings from the stay and assist arm.

4. Install the new set of bushings supplied in the kit. Using clean grease, such as white grease or equivalent, apply to the inside of the bushings and also the spring ends.

5. Install the new spring, putting the rear spring end into the new assist arm bushing first. Using needle nose pliers, insert the other end into the new stay bushing, being very careful not to damage the inside of the new bushing.


6. Install a flat washer and retaining clip on each end of the spring using a 1/4" drive 6 mm socket.

7. Apply grease to the spring coil and install the lower instrument panel cover.
