Lubrication
Turbocharger Lubrication:
PURPOSE
Lubricate turbine bearings.
OPERATION
The turbocharger is lubricated by the engine oil branched out from the oil pump. Since the turbine and bearings reach a maximum of several hundred thousand rpm's, full floating type bearings are used to form a desirable lubrication films on their inside and outside during operation. The oil also helps to cool the bearings, extending turbocharger life.
