Throttle Position Sensor: Adjustments
Idle Switch Contacts:
1. Check and adjust idle contact as follows:
a. Insert a feeler gauge between stopper screw of throttle body and stopper.
b. Using a suitable ohmmeter, check for continuity between terminals A and C.
c. Ensure continuity exists between terminals A and C when throttle is completely closed.
d. Insert a .0217 inch feeler gauge into position as previously described, and ensure continuity exists between terminals A and C. Throttle opening should be 1.5°.
e. Insert a .0362 inch feeler gauge into position as previously described and ensure there is no continuity between terminals A and C. Throttle opening should be 2.5°. If results are not as specified, loosen screws securing throttle sensor to throttle body and rotate throttle sensor body, then repeat steps a through e.
Throttle Sensor Terminals:
2. Check and adjust throttle opening signal as follows:
a. Measure resistance between terminals 1 and 3. Resistance should be 6K - 18K ohms.
Replace the sensor if out of specification.
b. Check that resistance between 1 and 2 is as follows:
Throttle closed 5.8k - 17.8k ohms
Throttle wide open 1.5k - 5.1k ohms
c. Ensure resistance between 1 and 2 increases continuously when throttle valve is moved from fully closed to fully open position.
d. Ensure resistance between 1 and 2 decreases continuously when throttle valve is moved from fully open to fully closed position.
e. If results are not as specified, replace sensor.
