Fast Idle Control Device (FICD)

Fuel Injector Schematic:

The Fast Idle Control Device (FICD) solenoid will not set a code in the ECU memory. Use the following procedures for diagnosis.

CHECK SIGNAL FROM A/C COMPRESSOR RELAY
1. Start the engine.
2. Turn the A/C system on.
3. Confirm that the A/C compressor clutch energizes. If the clutch does not energize, check the A/C system.
When the A/C compressor energizes, the signal is also sent to the ECU and the FICD solenoid.
4. Using a voltmeter, confirm that battery voltage exists at the FICD connector E4. If voltage does not exist, check the wiring betwwen the solenoid and the A/C relay.

CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN ECU AND SOLENOID
1. Turn key OFF and disconnect negative battery terminal.
2. Disconnect ECU connector T8 and FICD connector E4.
3. Using an ohmmeter, confirm that continuity exists between ECU harness terminal and FICD harness terminal.

Connector(terminal) Resistance:
T8(23) and E4 Continuity

If continuity does not exist, check for broken wire or poor connection at connectors F61 and F60.

CHECK FICD SOLENOID
1. Disconnect FICD connector.
2. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between FICD connector and body.
