Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove air cleaner.2. Disconnect starter electrical connections and remove starter.
3. On 4WD models, disconnect hoses at changeover actuator.
4. On all models, disconnect speedometer cable and all electrical connections at transmission.
5. Disconnect distributor to ignition coil high tension lead.
6. Disconnect clutch cable from transmission, then remove cable bracket and attach lifting hook where bracket was positioned.
7. Remove pitching stopper and brackets between transmission and body.
8. Support engine using suitable tools, then raise vehicle.
9. Support transmission with suitable jack, then remove undercovers.
10. Disconnect rear exhaust pipe from front pipe and vehicle body.
11. Remove center member and transverse link.

12. Using a drift and hammer, drive out spring pin, then disconnect axle shafts from transmission, Fig. 3.
13. Remove attaching bolts, then transmission mounting bracket.
14. Disconnect gearshift rod, stay and propeller shaft, if applicable, from transmission
15. Remove transmission to engine attaching bolts, then disengage transmission from engine.
16. Lift transmission carefully and remove from vehicle.
17. Reverse procedure to install.
