Occasionally the Technical Helpline receives calls from technicians asking us if we have been receiving a lot of complaints about a certain problem.Quite often the reply to their question is "no". They then proceed to tell us that they have been seeing a lot of these and called to find out some information on it. The reason the Techline has not heard of their particular problem is that nobody (including themselves) has taken the time to report this problem.
If your dealership is seeing a lot of a particular repair, don't just fix the problem and send the vehicle on its way. Contact the Technical Helpline or fill out a Quality Monitoring Report (QMR) and mail it to the address on the form. Without reports coming in either through the Helpline or by way of the QMR form, SOA has no way of knowing what repairs are increasing and we are unable to take corrective action. It is imperative that the reports be as concise as possible and all information asked for on the form be as complete as possible.
