Passive Restraints

If you encounter a passive belt that is in the front (door open) position and moves to the rear (door closed) position with the door open, the front limit switch wiring may be grounded or broken.

We have found that the interior trim molding which covers the front limit switch on the "A" pillar, has a metal clip that secures the trim molding to the body at the dash, door jam area. This metal clip may penetrate the B/W or R/W wire. This will continuously provide a ground to the limit switch and force it to the rear position. Tape must be removed in some instances to see the cut in the wire. When the area is located, you must repair the wire. We recommend you cut, solder and use heat shrink tubing.

After repair is made, verify passive belt operation.
